Limacol Boys Cool Down GPHC In Thriller

In  what was a thrilling encounter, New GPC Inc. defeated  Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation ( GPHC) by three wickets with a mere two  deliveries to spare in a feature 15- over softball match on Friday evening at  the world famous GCC ground, Bourda.

Scores  in the match, which was played under floodlights: GPHC 153- 6 from 15 overs;  New GPC 154- 7 from 14.4 overs. Batting  first, GPHC racked up their challenging total after enjoying a fruitful final  over which yielded 22 runs. Up until that over, the New GPC lads, playing under  the Limacol brand, were  enjoying the better of the exchanges.

However,  the last six deliveries were hammered to all parts of the outfield by Asif  Juman and Faeem Azeem to swing the momentum in GPHC’s favour at the innings  break.

Juman  led the way with a blistering unbeaten 57 ( 3x4s, 3x6s), and Azeem made 25 not  out ( 2x6s, 1×4). They were supported by Hemchand Jagroo, who made 21 with  three sixes, and Saif Razack, whose 18 included two fours and a six.
Jamel  Fraser and Marvin Griffith took 2- 9 and 2- 22 respectively for New GPC, who  responded in positive fashion with openers Ricky Lall and Sudesh Daniram adding  a brisk 32 for the first wicket.
After  the dismissal of Daniram was followed by another wicket the next delivery to  make it 32- 2, Lall and Kem Agard repaired the damage with an entertaining  third wicket partnership of 74.
At  106- 2 in the ninth over, New GPC supporters were anticipating an early finish,  but GPHC bowlers turned the screws on the scoring with four quick wickets,  before skipper Naresh Maraj added some lusty blows to bring the equation down  to eight runs required from the final over.
The  New GPC lads duly knocked off the target with two balls remaining, much to the  delight of their fans and the disappointment of the GPHC supporters.

Agard,  who was later named Man- of- the- Match, made a sparkling 56 ( 5x6s, 4x4s);  Maraj made 25 ( 2x6s, 1×4), Lall scored 24 ( 1×4, 1×6), and Daniram chipped in  with 20 ( 4x4s).             Trophies  for the match were donated by New GPC Inc., while Deon Feassal was the umpire  in charge of proceedings.

It is understood that New GPC Inc. will take on  the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry ( GBTI) shortly in a match of similar  nature. ( Avenash Ramzan)
